Training in Soweto: Where Passion Meets Purpose

We’ve been struggling for years to get the Jesus Film back into Soweto. On Tuesday, 4 February, 2025 Clinton did a training workshop for 105 ministry workers for 20+ Soweto churches. Although we faced a few challenges along the way, God was faithful, and things worked out. We had 105 attendees of diverse ages and genders, ranging from the youth to more elderly, with a notable mix of both male and female participants.

The excitement in the room was clear as we started the training with the Jesus Film App session in the morning. Throughout the training we have role-playing exercises on how to use the material in small group discussions, and each group shared their experiences. The feedback was very positive, with many attendees saying how the Holy Spirit moved in a special way within each group during training. Participants quickly understood the method and material, and were also excited to put it into practice in their daily lives.

In the afternoon, we did the small group discipleship strategy training, Knowing Jesus segment discipleship This strategy assist ministry workers to start small group gatherings using 61 segments from the Jesus Film. A few participants mentioned this strategy is transferable and easy to train others with.

As we finished up with the training, we found out that the church hosting us was planted 25 years ago out of Jesus Film showings in open fields nearby. Today, they have grown and planted eight other churches across South Africa. Hearing about their journey, humbled us, knowing we are building on the work of those who laid the foundation in Soweto.
